The Carnegie Library was originally constructed in the 1920’s. It was one of fourteen Carnegie Library’s in South Carolina. In the 1980’s the County built a new library down the street from the Carnegie and abandoned the old building. Cummings & McCrady helped the City of Darlington complete a Phase I “mothballing”. Hazardous materials abatement was done on the exterior and interior prior to beginning any work. The exterior stabilization and weatherization of the building was carried out with a master plan for the future use of the facility. Deflected lintels were replaced, masonry was repointed, copper roofing was added, and flashings were installed in appropriate locations.
