First Scots Presbyterian Church is in the Charleston Historic District and designated as a National Historic Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places. Following many additions over a long history, the congregation at this downtown church demolished an existing hall and classroom building and began construction on a new 35,000 s.f. education facility. Cummings & McCrady managed an extensive coordination of engineering disciplines, in addition to the local authorities having jurisdiction. Located in the center of the historic district, the project required multiple visits to the Board of Architectural Review (BAR) and Technical Review Committee (TRC).
Additionally, the firm initiated early-on and maintained a relationship with the Historic Charleston Foundation, overseers of the adjacent and historic Nathaniel-Russell House.
