Gaineswood Mansion, Demopolis, AL Said to be the finest example of Greek Revival architecture in the United States, the Gaineswood Mansion is one of the few houses in Alabama listed as a National Historic Landmark. It was built between 1843 and 1861 and is now open to the public as a museum. In the effort to transform the house into a public museum, Cummings and McCrady conducted a detailed structural analysis of wall and roof conditions and provided drawings for strengthening the roof framing and re-roofing key areas without further damaging fragile plaster domes. The plaster domes were then repaired. |
