Founded in 1770, the College of Charleston is the oldest state supported college in the United States. The Cummings & McCrady design of this award winning education facility contains classrooms, public areas, computer labs, lecture halls, and a large kitchen capable of catering large functions. The massing of the building gives the impression that it is a smaller facility. This feature was recognized and praised by the Charleston Preservation Society with the Carolopolis Award. It is notable that this Education Center was the first new building in Charleston to receive the Carolopolis Award.
