Bishop Gadsden Chapel, Charleston, SC

Completed in April 2006, the Bishop Gadsden chapel by Cummings & McCrady, Inc. provides an on-campus space dedicated to worship services and faith based activities for the Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community in Charleston, South Carolina.  Sited at the primary entrance to the community, the chapel marks a definitive moment of arrival on the campus and embraces the style of Bishop Gadsden.  Reconciling this traditional aesthetic to modern technology and the program necessitated by elderly worshippers, the Bishop Gadsden chapel relates to the local and historic contexts, provides an optimized environment for residents, and utilizes innovative construction methods and technology.
