Rededicated on August 24, 2003, this church underwent an entire building and building system renovation following a devastating fire on August 20, 2002.

Our Lady of Mercy, on Charleston's East Side, is known for its soup kitchen at ground level below the church. The soup kitchen serves and is a vital part of the local community. This project restored the soup kitchen as well as the church above to working condition and won both a 2005 South Carolina Historic Preservation Award and a Carolopolis Award for Restoration.
